Pros:
  • Quality
Cons:
  • Versatility
I work with fishing programs and love these guys! They are perfect for teaching the kids about casting distance and accuracy. When reeling in, they are easy to slide, as long as they are on a tarp or slick surface. They don't do very well on rock or grass. Not all styles of casting plugs work in these, I have found the small 3/8 oz casting plugs that are a teardrop and hexagon shape work the best! They are a very durable set.

I bought the instructors set for my Cub Scout Pack. I decided to try them out with my sons in the front yard. The next thing I know, I have kids from all over the neighborhood learning to fish. These are fun and a great toy/tool to learn how to fish.

I have used the educator's set for helping to teach casting to boy scouts and works great. I'm looking forward to using this set for teaching some of the younger cub scouts too.

Great learning tool for Scouts young and old

Pros:
  • Active teaching tool
  • Fun for young and old
  • Good amount of fish with this kit
Cons:
This set of Bass is great for Boy Scouts during a fishing trip. We had a lot of Arrow of Light cross over Scouts that hadn't been fishing since Bears. This helped refresh and refine their skills to build casting ability and confidence.

I would recommend this full kit vs. a starter pack. Hooking a Backyard Bass is harder than it looks and if you have a smaller school of fish, you will have a difficult time casting to get a bite.

Pros:
  • ease of use
Cons:
  • not drop safe
Back yard bass has to be the best way I've seen to teach casting to youth. Over the course of one meeting an entire scout pack can be taught how to cast safely and accurately and have a lot of fun doing it.

Bought this for my son, his Cub Scout troop, and my classroom. Great to practice casting. Put a picture of a fish on the bottom, then have kids look up that fish, bag, and length limits to learn the rules and regulations.
